Hi everybody! Happy Thursday!
I took yesterday off, and it was amazing. I don’t have classes on Wednesdays (business school, and I right?), but it still took some effort to totally unplug for the day. My special someone is visiting this week, so I blocked the day off on my calendar. I didn’t work on any of the many projects I have going on right now. I didn’t attend any meetings. I didn’t do any homework. Instead, we had a lazy picnic on the beach, went for a walk, and stopped for ice cream on the way home. It was so, so nice, and it reinforced the value of taking a break and spending time with the special people in my life.
I had this debate going into this week – would I try to keep up with the sometimes breakneck speed of my life at school and drag him along to all of my events, or would I schedule in some free blocks and simply not do as much this week? It was surprisingly hard to allow myself to do the latter, but I’m so happy that I did. I think it can be easy to deprioritize time with family and SOs. In the two by two of life (the former consultant in me is showing, I know) they fall into the important but not urgent bucket, which is the easiest to let slide. They understand how much you have going on, and rarely is spending time with them particularly time sensitive. But I think it’s really rewarding to give them the time and attention they deserve, and to really feel like you nailed your life prioritization. I highly recommend taking a day off sometime.
On that note, I’m gonna go spend some quality time. Thanks so much for stopping by!
