Hi everybody! Happy Monday!
This week I’m on spring break in Morocco!! We arrived late Saturday night, so yesterday was our first full day and it has been amazing so far! We’re starting our trip in Marrekech, and drove out of the city yesterday morning to the Imlil region that boasts a number of small villages at the base of the Atlas Mountains. We hiked about halfway up, to the bottom of the snow line, to the most remote village in the region and ate an amazing traditional Moroccan meal (mint tea, marinated beef, vegetables, rice, olive oil… it was so so good!) from the roof of the town’s guest house. I’ve included a few pictures of the stunning hike and one of the amazing tapestries that were hanging along the way.
In Marrekech we’re staying at the Radisson Blu which I highly recommend. I’ve never stayed with this hotel chain before (I’m told they’re not all created equal) but our whole group (30 MBA students so its a tough crowd :P) has been really impressed. The facilities are gorgeous including a beautiful patio with pool and restaurant, fun live music on Saturday night, and a fully equipped gym. The breakfast they set out in the morning is the epitome of an impressive spread, with so many traditional Moroccon options to choose from. They have this amazing nut butter that is a combo of almond butter, honey, and argan oil. It’s a bit on the sweet side but sooo good in plain yogurt.
A quick word on this outfit. I packed for 10 days in a carry-on (which was so, so hard) so every item needs to pull its weight. This top is super light and breezy, and hangs a little loose on my body which I really like for traveling. The pants are super solid, comfortable, stretchy black jeans that work with a t-shirt for touring or a nicer blouse for dinner and drinks out on town. And I know this bag has seen the light of day a LOT on this blog, but its worth calling out once more for its perfect travel size. It’s small enough that airlines don’t blink at it as a third personal item (suitcase, tote bag + neck pillow hanging from the straps – a must for long haul flights despite the nerdy aesthetic – and this purse). It’s got a little pocket for keeping my passport and boarding passes organized, fits my full size wallet, sunglasses and case, kindle, chapstick, gum, and a small thing of face sunscreen (my absolute favorite is here). The purse also has a clever latch that makes it ideal for wandering in new places without worrying about your stuff going missing.
Have you ever been to Morocco? Is there anything I can’t miss? More photos to come as I continue to explore this beautiful place! As always, thanks so much for stopping by!
