Hi everybody! Happy Thursday!
This week I really felt the full power of the California winter. There I was, wearing a t-shirt and sandals, sitting in my classroom with my sunglasses propped on the table and the windows wide open, when I got a text announcing that two feet of snow had fallen on the east coast. Actually, it took me so long to make the connection that they had a snow day that I needed to clarify, “two feet of what?”. It was a little embarrassing…
Anyway, we didn’t switch immediately to full on summer here (at least not yet). Yesterday was a true spring day. A little overcast and gray, mild when the sun made a feeble attempt to shine, but cool with the breeze. It felt like the perfect opportunity to pull out my new poncho and take it for a spin. I’m really excited for an upcoming trip (I’ll spill all the beans soon and then likely overshare my photos), but between now and then I have to finish up a few group projects and take a few finals. Cue the stress shopping. Anyway I thought this piece looked like the ultimate addition to my travel wardrobe and now that it’s arrived I’m pretty sure I won’t be disappointed.
I really think ponchos are the ultimate transition-weather sweater (see my last poncho post from the fall here). They’re often awkward to wear under coats and so don’t hold up in my book for winter. But for a seasonal transition, they’re pretty perfect. Cozy and warm against a gray day without being overly bulky or stuffy. They’re like a blanket scarf taken to the extreme, and I myself am a pretty big fan.
Sizing with ponchos can be kind of tough. Some are one-size fits all, but in general I try to order the same size I would in a more fitted sweater to make sure the proportions fit the way the designer intended. If the poncho has defined shoulders, as this one does, I aim to make sure these fit appropriately, and then let the rest drape as it will. I’m super excited to take this bad boy exploring with me, so get ready for some more photos with it soon.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
