Hi everybody! This week I’m on vacation! My very best friend from childhood is living in Portugal right now with her husband, and so in this amazing month I have off between work and school, I decided to pay them a visit. Portugal is incredible, and I am absolutely loving it here. Check back next Monday for a little synopsis of where we’ve visited and my favorite stops along the way!
In the mean time I want to talk about packing for this vacation. For those of you who have been following along, you know I just moved out of my apartment in Boston. You can say this month is a bit of a logistical nightmare, and in the interest of simplifying my life, I wanted to pack light (carry-on only is my travel motto). That being said, I needed clothing for staying warm on the plane (see my strategies here), walking around and touring new cities all day for a whole week (hello my converse favorites), and an option for dressing up in case we were in the mood for a fancy dinner. I love a simple summer dress for travel because it’s so easy to chuck into a suitcase and it barely takes up any space. This one does wrinkle up a bit, but it responded really nicely to being hung in the bathroom during my shower, to the point where the slight wrinkles weren’t really noticeable. And, if you had access to a steamer or an iron (ugh, I know) on your vacation, all the better. I love the pop of bright color and the fact that the dress is simple enough that I could have worn it with simple sandals or white sneakers for touring around, and I would have been comfortable all day long.
I also can’t say enough good things about finding a pair of dress up shoes that are comfortable. Unfortunately this pair of wedges is really old, but I’ve linked a few similar versions below. I love bringing wedges with me when I travel because they provide a little bit more stability and comfort than your typical high heel, and that can make all the difference some nights when you can’t find a cab, the road is made of cobblestones, or it’s simply too gorgeous not to walk around.
What are your strategies for dressing up on vacation? Do you have any tried and true pieces you can’t do without? As always – thanks for stopping by! See you Monday :)
