Hi everybody! Happy Monday! I don’t know about you, but I think dressing for work is hard. Harder than it should be. Outfits need to be professional (and for now let’s just ignore how ambiguous that guideline is), travel well, and fit precisely. But I also want them to be feminine, fun, and reflect my personality. I want to feel confident and good about the way I look. And, in my mind, that’s a tall order.
For me the solution comes by limiting my options. I have roughly 6 work outfits that are my go-tos. I either repeat them or some variation on them every week. While this may sound boring, for me it’s a lifesaver. It means packing for work travel is a breeze (3 pairs of black tights? check! maroon skirt, blue dress, and grey pants? check! 3 silk blouses in neutral colors? check!), and it also means that I don’t stress about creating a new look that fits all the guidelines all the time. I can hit snooze a few times and know I’ll still make it out the door when I need to in the morning. And, it means that I can invest in high quality pieces and feel confident that I will get great wear out of them (thereby beating out the “cost per wear” I get on some of the cheaper items I have in my closet). This outfit is composed entirely of those types of investment pieces, each of which has been shown on this blog multiple times, styled differently in each cameo. They are favorites of mine, and a nice security blanket for knowing that when push comes to shove, these items are there for me.
Do you have any of those types in your closet? I’d love to hear your favorite brands and pieces for easing the work-wear burden. I hope you all have great weeks, and thanks so much for stopping by!
